Ross Stores, Inc. (ROST) (Ross, dd’s DISCOUNTS) Accelerating 2011 New Store Development Expansion Plan, new Atlanta stores


Before I begin this analysis, I thought all my leasing agent, broker, and developer friends would like to know that dd’s DISCOUNTS just entered the Atlanta market in the last 90 days with two new locations – one at 3293 Buford Highway NE in Atlanta and another at 399 Upper Riverdale Road in Jonesboro (see this link for more information like store hours, phone numbers, etc.)

According to Michael O’Sullivan, President and COO:

I think we’ve announced previously that in 2011 we’ll probably have round about 6% to 7% unit growth for stores. And I would say about 1% to 2% of that would be in new markets, and hopefully that’s the product in terms of where we use cash, using cash to fuel growth.

Michael Balmuth, Vice Chairman and CEO:

On growth by concept it was about 6% to 7%, one to two points will be dd’s and rest will be Ross approximately.

John Call, SVP and CFO:

We’re going to stick to steady 6% to 7% growth, obviously we’ll be opportunistic in terms of what locations we pick up and what kind of real estate deals we do, but I think you can expect 6% to 7% for us

Michael Balmuth, Vice Chairman and CEO:

Which is an acceleration of where it has been most recently.

 

OK, so Ross currently operates 990 Ross and 67 dd’s DISCOUNTS stores as of November 18, 2010.  Per the above info, 6-7% growth by all concepts for 2011 (63 – 74 new stores total).  1-2 points of the 6-7% for dd’s DISCOUNTS and the rest for Ross. 

14.3% – 33.3% of all new store growth dedicated to dd’s DISCOUNTS.

66.7 – 85.7% of all new store growth dedicated to Ross.

dd’s DISCOUNTS opening 9 – 25 new stores in 2011.

Ross opening 42 – 63 new stores in 2011.
