Outlet Malls on a growth spurt nationwide – probable metro Atlanta locations

As I have posted in the past, Outlet Malls are a strong future trend and there is a shortage of available space throughout the US.  I would assume we will see outlet malls at every compass point in metro Atlanta as well within the next 5-7 years.  My guesses would be Woodstock/Canton, Acworth/Cartersville, Douglasville/Villa Rica, Newnan/Lagrange, Covington/Madison, and Gainesville.  What do you think?

According to ICSC’s Global Outlet News:

10 outlet projects under construction
The word on the street is that today’s retail construction is in the form of renovations rather than new projects. Renovations might be king right now in the traditional shopping center sector, but VRN counts at least 10 new outlet projects under construction, including five phase 1 centers totaling 1.6 million sf and five expansions to existing outlet centers totaling 423,500 sf. Together, the expansions and new centers will add a serious, take-it-to-the-bank, not-fooling-around 2 million sf of outlet GLA to the industry, almost all of it within a year.
The phase 1 outlet projects are:
       • The Shops of Grand River, Leeds, Ala., Daniel Corp/USS Real
          Estate, 330,000 sf, Oct. 28, 2010
       • Tanger Outlet Center, Mebane, N.C., Tanger Factory Outlet
          Centers, 300,000 sf, fall 2010
       • Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City, Okla., Horizon Group
          Properties, 320,000 sf, mid-2011
       • Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley, Manteca, Calif., Craig
          Realty Group/Poag & McEwan, 225,000 sf, May 12, 2011
       • Merrimack(N.H.) Premium Outlets, Merrimack, N.H., Premium
Outlets, a division of Simon Property Group, 430,000-sf,
          2012
The outlet expansions are:
       • 70,000-sf expansion of Las Vegas Outlet Center, Premium
Outlets, open spring 2011, will bring the center to
          525,000 sf
       • 114,000-sf expansion of Houston Premium Outlets, Cypress,
Texas, Premium Outlets, open by yearend 2010, will bring
          the center to 541,000 sf
       • 157,000-sf phase 3 of Citadel Outlets, City of Commerce,
Calif., Craig Realty Group, open by the 2010 holiday season,
will bring the center to 433,210 sf
       • 45,078-sf phase 3 expansion of Atlantic City Outlets,
The Walk, Atlantic City, N.J., Cordish Company, open by
the 2010 holiday selling season, will bring the center to
          715,078 sf.
       • 36,500 sf is how much larger the replacement center will be
after the 186,500-sf Tanger Outlet Hilton Head I is rebuilt.
The original South Carolina center has been demolished
and a 223,000-sf contemporary footprint will open in its
          place in spring 2011.

  1. Hi, I m interested to know if there are any opportunities to open an outlet mall in my country, Malaysia. There are no Outlet Malls (such as those found in the US), here in Malaysia or in the South East Asia region. I believe that it would make a huge impact to the retail business landscape in Malaysia, and also in the South East Asia Region. Kindly inform me if there is any possibility of developing an Outlet Mall, outside of USA. Thank you. – from Salmah
